P.J. Skill leaves RSVP: A job well done
Organizations, whether public or private, manned by paid employees or volunteers, are sometimes fortunate enough to have in their midst rare individuals who are inveterate movers and shakers. They are persons with initiative, those willing to take the first step, to think and act without being urged. However, eventually those individuals find new projects to inspire them and different mountains to climb, but they are sorely missed. P. J. Skill, Assistant Administrator of Rancho Bernardo Retired Senior Volunteer Patrol, San Diego Police Department, is such an individual, and members of RSVP want to take this opportunity to say an appreciative ‘good luck’ as he retires and goes on to other endeavors. A Rancho Bernardo resident since the early 60's, P.J. was a member of RSVP's first training class in 1992. He came to RSVP with a leadership background in many community activities in Rancho Bernardo and San Diego . He was an Honorary member of the Deputy Sheriffs, former Grand Jury member and member of the RB Hall of Fame in 1974. He volunteered for the newly available position of Assistant Administrator when Jim Brown moved away in 1994. Bob Smith, Administrator, feels that P. J. has done more over the years for the RSVP Program than any other member throughout the City. He was particularly active in recruiting and training new members, procuring funding, getting media support, and obtaining and maintaining donated vehicles. P.J. is presently contending with a bout of pneumonia. The Storefront personnel send him their best wishes for a speedy recovery and for much success in his future undertakings. RSVP members especially salute him for a job well done! Bob Smith, RSVP Administrator, announces that effective January 1, 2000 several management changes will be made. Marie Graver will be promoted to Assistant Administrator. She and Richard Van Overmeiren will coordinate all necessary administrative duties.Jim Artherton will be promoted to New Member Manager. He will conduct new member interviews, Academy scheduling, Ride-Alongs, Handicap Parking Training, etc. He will be assisted by Assistant Manager Dan Conner.Art Handell will be promoted to Office Manager and will be assisted by Assistant Manager Pat Rucker.Jerry Goldstein will be promoted to Scheduling Assistant Manager reporting to Manager Stuart Morpeth.Smith states that all of the above-mentioned members have displayed professionalism and sincere dedication to the RSVP program.Three new recruits reported in to the Retired Senior Volunteer Patrol Academy on January 10, 2000: Ralph Berrick, Mary Herman and Marlene Sheridan.-Courtesy RB NEWSJournal |
