RB Council gives Distinguished Service Awards
On Thursday night, January 27at 7 p.m. in the Community Room at the Library, the RB Community Council will bestow its Annual Distinguished Service Awards on volunteers from Neighborhood Watch and Emergency Preparedness. This is an annual event to award those volunteers who have shown outstanding help in promoting security and safety and sharing this information with their neighbors. Many of these recipients have helped by preparing their neighbors and community centers for a possible emergency or disaster. Congratulations to: Gary Carlson, Evelyn Dobson, Maury Eis, Ted Gaasch, Richard Jones, Dave Keeney, Flo Logsdon, Dan McCue, Annette Miller, Kay Nash, Arthur Preston, Stan Racik, Tim Rice, Hal St. Clair, Pat White, Roger Wolfe and Fritz Wolff. Special Leadership Awards will go to Bob Smith, Al Totino, Jacquie Nelson and Jim Harmon. Planned also is a special party on February 11 for the 1998 and 1999 recipients of these awards at the Eastview Community Center. Good news from Rancho Bernardo Senior Services. They now have a list of drivers who have volunteered their time to drive seniors who are unable to walk to a bus stop, or who can no longer drive, who need transportation to the doctor or to grocery shop. If you are unable to stop by Senior Services for a list of drivers, you may send them a self-addressed stamped envelope: RB Senior Services, 16769 Bernardo Center Drive, Suite K-14, San Diego 92128. Tax help time is here again at Senior Services. Starting Tuesday, February 1 through April 15, seniors will be able to receive free tax assistance with their State and Federal returns. Trained people will be on hand to assist persons on a first come-first serve basis. ( Appointments cannot be taken.) Come in Tuesdays 9-12 am and 1-4 pm; Wednesdays 1-4 pm; Thursdays 9-12 am and 1-4 pm (except March 23 which is only 1-4 pm);and Saturdays 9-12 am.Taxpayers are to bring all of the information regarding their income and taxable deduction receipts, as well as a copy of the 1998 income tax return. If any disabled shut-ins need in-home assistance, and if the return is not complicated and the required information is available, they should call 858-487-2640. State and Federal tax forms are available in the Senior Services offices. Barbara Crouch, Senior Services Director, announces that on Tuesday, January 25 from 9:30 to 11 am., Patty Ann Born, Health Insurance Specialist, will present a seminar, "All you wanted to know about Long Term Care Insurance."
