Spirit of the Fourth. Mark your calendars now. A whole lot of fun is coming to Webb Park on Tuesday, July 4, 2000! Your souvenir program, distributed soon, will list the times of each act that will be performed during the day, the location of the booths which feature many services including food. Neighborhood Watch and Emergency Preparedness will be there with handouts promoting your safety and security; the Joslyn Senior Center, the RB Historical Society and City Council candidate Brian Maienschein are just a few of the exhibitors. The big parade starts at 3:30 this year.

The Rancho Bernardo Women's Volleyball League is in the process of celebrating their 25th Anniversary here in the community. The league originally started with a group of woman who just wanted to get together and have a little fun for a couple of months out of the year over at the Westwood Club. The league now runs all year long divided into a Spring and Fall Season, is very competitive and is 65 women strong, ranging in age from 25 to 61 years old. Congratulations go out to Judie McKinney who has been with the league for all 25 years. She has been on the Side Out team, which won the tournament portion this season. Anyone interested in playing next season may contact the Westwood Club at 485-6300 for information.

The Retired Senior Volunteer Patrol appreciates and wants to thank all their VIPs (Volunteers in Policing) who work in the RSVP office answering the telephone, directing the calls, doing clerical work and, in general, making life easier for the managers and administrators. They have all been made "Honorary RSVP" members. One special volunteer, Dora Buckbee, widow of a RSVP member, was the first to be awarded this honor. She has helped serve lunch for years at the monthly luncheon meetings. Since that date, the following VIPs have been made honorary members: Jane Burnett, Barbara Ferguson, Bill Greene, Elizabeth Heldack, Pauline Kier, Laura Kneebone, Don "Pete" Peters and Jean Sakellar.
