RB program facing funding crisis
Since Frankie Laine cancelled his benefit performance recently, we are losing our fundraising capabilities for 2000. We will also lose money due to our unfulfilled contracts with the Poway Theater and our publicity efforts over the past 4 months. We are hoping Rancho Bernardo residents will help us out. We have not sent a fundraising letter or written a newspaper appeal for many years. When we did, you gave generously, and we thank you. We are asking again for you to consider what Rancho Bernardo would be like without the safety and security that we provide, as well as the information to help fight crime and to improve our quality of life. (Please check website www.rbernardo.com/ RB Community Watch to see what these programs do for RB.)Please send a check, payable to the ‘San Diego Foundation,’ and mail to Neighborhood Watch/ EPP Fundraising, 17110 Bernardo Center Drive, San Diego, CA 92128. It is completely tax deductible. 99% percent of your donation will go directly to RB NHW/EPP programs (the Foundation charges 1%.) Any donation is greatly appreciated.AAUW awards scholarships. The final meeting of the 1999-2000 year for the Rancho Bernardo branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) paid tribute recently to local scholarship winners: Alice Bullard, Karen Crews, Donna Sather and Donna Jiles from Palomar College; Mary Clark and Beverly Huss from CSU San Marcos. Bara Mann, an 8th grade student at Bernardo Heights middle school, was also honored. She was selected to attend the Tech Trek: Science Camp for Girls at UCSD in July. The new web page with the officers of the AAUW Rancho Bernardo branch and more information and links are now online at www.rbernardo.com under Other RB Organizations.Have you heard about the new Discovery Shops? A super new Rancho Bernardo re-sale shop owned by the American Cancer Society. Right in the Plaza at 11972 Bernardo Plaza Drive, near Baskin & Robbins. Kimberly Bond-Frye is the new Manager. She has incredible credentials: The Bond Connection in UTC; Robinsons-May; Parkway Plaza. Here is a manager that knows quality merchandise. She’ll have an all-volunteer staff (care to join?)The Discovery Shops wants to obtain quality donations that have been well cared for: clothing for all ages, furniture, jewelry, artwork, china, crystal, accessories and bric-a-brac. Donations are tax deductible, of course. They need your donations and they need volunteers. It sounds like a great place to work, and it sounds like a great place to buy. Call Kimberly at 385-0479 to volunteer, to donate or just for questions. The Discovery Shops is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. If nothing else, go visit to see what’s up. You may stay as a volunteer. Courtesy RB NEWSJournal |
