Humbug, Tin Lizzies and tall tales coming to RB

Don’t miss this intriguing group of lectures given at the Continuing Education by William Cheek, Ph.D., SDSU. There will be 5 sessions encompassing the lives, genius, foibles, and foppery of three American moguls - P. T. Barnum, Henry Ford and Mark Twain. These sessions begin on February 1 and end on March 2. Call for details.

THE CONTINUING EDUCATION CENTER’S new winter classes begin on January 16. For more information, call (858) 487-0464. The new award- winning brochure was a recent supplement in the RB NEWSJournal delivered to your home.

TONY LONGO, Seven Oaks Emergency Preparedness Media Director and WAYNE JOHNSON, Seven Oaks Emergency Preparedness CB Communications Coordinator

are the January 2001 recipients of the popular Coco’s Award for outstanding leadership in Rancho Bernardo’s Neighborhood Watch and Emergency Preparedness.

RB PRESS CLUB: Gerry Wilson, President and CEO of the San Diego & Imperial County Better Business Bureau will speak at the Press Club tomorrow, January 12, at 10:30 a.m. at the San Diego National Bank’s 2nd floor Conference Room. Wilson will speak on the BBB’s influence on the conduct of business in San Diego, as well as the many scams perpetrated in "Scam Diego."

THE NEWCOMERS CLUB IS NOW THE RANCHO BERNARDO SOCIAL CLUB: A new change has taken place within this very popular organization. The members are changing their name and their image. No longer are residents required to be new to RB; all may now simply join and enjoy the social activities such as monthly Sunday brunches, dances, golf, bridge, needlecraft, and trips to wine country, local casinos and the like.

Membership is $10 per household, and the next RB Social Club outing will be brunch on Sunday, January 14 at Stoneridge Country Club. Call Midge Seymour (858 )676-1807 for membership information, or Alice Schaible (858) 485-0536 for January 14 details and reservations.

COMMUNITY ELECTIONS: I think we have learned from the past national election how important it is to vote and to take part in community decisions. Rancho Bernardo needs residents to join the Community Council, the Planning Board and the Recreation Council. Applications are being accepted now through the end of January; elections are March 3, 2001. Residents from all seven districts are being sought. Applications are now at the library and all community and senior centers. Or call Katharina Farrand at 673-7515 and she will mail you one.

‘THREE HITS AND A MISS’ tonight at 8 p.m. Don’t miss the Bernardo Community Concert’s third performance of the season. This nationally acclaimed vocal group will present your favorite music of the 40’s and 50’s in the style of the Modernaires. They have performed in New York at Carnegie Hall, Los Angeles at Bob Hope’s McCallum Theater and many more venues. They will be presenting their "Sentimental Star Tour" at the Poway Performing Arts Center. Call the box office at (858) 748-0505 to reserve your tickets ($15.00 each.)

RB ART ASSOCIATION - For the month of January, they will have their Fine Arts Exhibit 2001 at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts. It’s a most exciting show. Call 858-487-8213.
