The festivities will take place in the parking lot of the center located at 16950 Via Tazon Drive in the Industrial Park. Area residents are encouraged to attend; there will be many activities for adults and children. Sharp Rees-Stealy will be offering health screenings on a first-come, first-served basis, including blood pressure checks, skin cancer and vision screenings, cholesterol tests and cardiac risk evaluations. KFMB radio will broadcast live and the event will feature facility tours, San Diego Padres, Children’s 10Mobile, Wheels of Freestyle Bike Team, car seat safety checks, San Diego Fire Department, Rancho Bernardo Retired Senior Volunteer Patrol, California Highway Patrol and San Diego Paramedics. An interactive area for children will include face painting, clowns, finger casting and germ glow machines. For more information on the event, call 1-800-82-SHARP. We have just heard from Judy Johnson who works for AGING & INDEPENDENCE SERVICES: "I saw the article about you and your website in the North Inland section of the Union-Tribune. I think that what you are doing is wonderful for the Rancho Bernardo community. I am writing to let you know about Aging & Independence Services (AIS). "It is a county agency and a federally designated Area Agency on Aging. I work for AIS in the Outreach/Education Dept for the inland/coastal North County region. We now have about 30 different programs under our umbrella. Some of the programs include Adult Protective Services (APS) - where anyone can report elder or dependent adult abuse. "We also have OMBUDSMAN - they are the patients' advocates in nursing homes. We have IN-HOME SUPPORTIVE SERVICES (IHSS) - they offer homemaking services for low income seniors. PROJECT CARE is coordinated by our agency -that's a free safety net program for seniors/dependent adults who live alone or have health problems. "Project Care offers a free "Vial of Life" container that should be placed on the refrigerator and our agency trains the Fire Dept, Police and Paramedics to look for this vial. "Project Care has a few other components too. Some of our volunteer programs include FOSTER GRANDPARENTS AND GUARDIAN ANGEL - a new program where a friendly visitor visits someone in a nursing home (who never has visitors) once per week. We have several case management programs as well as many other programs. I thought it might be a good idea to put our number in your website, especially for those wanting to report elder abuse. Aging & Independence Services' phone number is 800-510-2020." Yes, Judy, we will be adding these telephone numbers and web pages to www.rbernardo.com very soon. Based on RB NEWSJournal |
