Recently, the PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE of the RB Community Council was given an impressive and very informative presentation by Captain Gregory Olsen and Captain Ted Visser of the San Diego Fire Department. The SDFD is working hard to get the approval of San Diego City Council for the purchase of a helicopter. This helicopter will have nine applications: search and rescue, wildland fire suppression, vehicle extrication, swift and still water rescue, command and control platform, high angle or cliff rescue, HAZMAT (hazardous materials) incidents, tactical paramedic delivery and fire investigation.

All major metropolitan areas and counties in California have fire helicopters except San Diego. The RANCHO BERNARDO COMMUNITY COUNCIL endorsed this project at their January meeting. As citizens, we can help by promoting this endeavor and encouraging our Council Member, Brian Maienschein, to vote favorably for its purchase. This is a valuable program for our citizens.

SENIOR SERVICES OF RB will host a seminar on "Memory and Aging - what’s normal, what’s not?" on Monday, February 12 at 10:00 a.m. Kathy Greene from Silverado Senior Living in Escondido will give an informative talk about: normal changes in memory; indications of dementia; and steps to take if you suspect Alzheimer’s Disease. Learn why "senior moments" are nothing to worry about and get the latest news on memory-enhancing medications. Reservations only - 487-2640.

Speaking of our 5th District Council Member, BRIAN MAIENSCHEIN will talk at the PRESS CLUB OF RANCHO BERNARDO tomorrow, Friday, February 9 at 10:30 at the San Diego National Bank’s conference room.
