Love letter: What’s
fair is fare
It’s only fair to reprint excerpts from a letter I received from Southwest Airlines. I guess I was far from the only one who ranted and raved at them. A brilliant business letter was written by Amy Cunningham, Customer Relations, recently. Mrs. Eaton, my Business Writing college professor would have been delighted. Excerpts follow: "We were not surprised to receive your correspondence. As I am sure you can imagine, we have heard from many of our valued Customers who were inconvenienced when traveling with us recently…we assure you that this time period is not one we will soon forget—though, believe me we want to. We are very sorry our performance was so disappointing. "Obviously, we were disadvantaged by situations beyond our control, and we know you understand that. ….at the same time, some of the circumstances we faced were within our control and could have been handled better….we did not do our best. "Our Senior Management Team is focused on improving ontime performance and baggage handling and is already compiling recommendations and suggestions …your comments will be helpful as we strive to improve our overall service….in an effort to accentuate our apologies, we are enclosing a complimentary roundtrip pass. …we are hopeful that we will have an opportunity to serve you again soon—under far more favorable circumstances, of course!" Nice. I will now refrain from calling them Southworst Air. MYRNA REESE (new Hall of Fame inductee) is resting comfortably now after being in a tragic car accident. She is at Palomar Hospital and would enjoy getting cards from well-wishers. One wonders what half of all RB Organizations will be doing to fill in while this dynamic volunteer and organizer mends her broken bones.
