Learn the secrets of finding the right word by exploring the sources of English words and the influences that have shaped their meanings. The Continuing Education Center presents a fascinating 6 sessions by Shirley S. Allen, Ph.D. in English at Bryn Mawr College. The average American vocabulary has shrunk; there is no doubt about that. Even professional speakers are now interspersing "you know, "I mean," and "like" into their presentations. They are grasping for the right word to say what they mean. Understanding root meanings and the role of prefixes and suffixes will not only increase vocabulary, but also give guidance in spelling and pronunciation. In an area of physical fitness, it may be time to seek a balance by increasing mental fitness as well. Call CEC, 487-0464, for more information and reservations. This 6-session course begins Monday, April 16 and continues through May 21.
