Short videos promote safety

Thanks to Bob Smith, the producer and director of PACE-TV’s series on "Facing Neighborhood Problems," you can now borrow videos for your own enjoyment or for your organizations. Each of the three videos contain four half-hour subjects which provide resources and answers to many of our individual and community problems. All of the videos mentioned below can be borrowed from the Neighborhood Watch / Emergency Preparedness office at the Library, 2nd floor. Call 538-8148 for more information.

Tape I : SDPD Deputy Chief John Welter discusses Community Policing and Empowered Partnerships between the Police and the Community; Officer Lance Dormann illustrates Problem Solving through the S.A.R.A. model; Drugs, Gangs, and Graffiti; and Crisis Response for Sexual Assault with EYE Counselor Arlene Cawthorne.

Tape II: The president of the Better Business Bureau, Gerry Wilson, talks about "Scams and frauds; " Crisis Response to Family Violence with Arlene Cawthorne; "When things go wrong - call 9-1-1" shows how Police Communications work for you; and Scott Wilson, an expert in the field of earthquake preparedness speaking on Home and Neighborhood Disaster Preparedness, explains how Rancho Bernardo Neighborhood Watch and Emergency Preparedness work together, and what other affected cities have learned from their actual experiences.

Tape III: Police technology; how Air Support helps catch the criminals; Mediation is a win-win solution to many of our neighborhood and domestic problems - how to use it; Safe Streets NOW, the widely recognized Bob Heider group, explains how to build effective partnerships to keep our streets safe; and David Fast, Postal Inspector, who helps provide solutions to "Postal Theft and Fraud."

More videos at the NHW /EPP office include: Safety Tips for your Home and Family (9 minutes); Fire Safety and Prevention Tips and A Burglary Preventive (each 10 minutes); Burglary: A Crime that hits home (10 minutes); Senior Fire Safety with actor Jonathon Winters (18 minutes): an ABC News video, World of Discovery: Earthquakes - the terrifying truth (50 minutes.) Child safety videos include Kids and Airbags (6 minutes) and Young Drivers; The High Risk Years (15 minutes.)

The above videos are all professional, educational and available to all. They can be used for any meeting that you may have. They can be the ice-breakers to provoke lively discussions or they may, possibly, save lives. You are welcome to use them, just call 858-538-8148 to borrow them. No charge, of course.

These tapes are ideal for community meetings, Neighborhood Watch, Emergency Preparedness, and RSVP meetings, Homeowners Association meetings; any meeting that would benefit by showing interesting information regarding crime prevention, problem solving, community relations, scams and frauds, drugs, domestic violence, mediation, 9-1-1 information, disaster preparedness, and other important things affecting all residents.
