Great "neighborliness" offered on
August 7
"Neighborliness" was never a real word until Bob Smith coined it and made it meaningful several years ago. But it’s a real good way to describe what happens when neighbors get together. And nothing has more neighborliness than the 18th Annual "Night Out Against Crime" on Tuesday, August 7. Here are a few of the happenings on that night. We hope your block or street is included, because it’s a lot of fun and very informative. Call your Block Captain if you want you and your neighbors to participate. Then call the Storefront so we can include you on our list. 538-8148. We have much useful information to hand out. Oaks North is represented by 2 blocks on Plaza Acosta, 3 blocks on Plaza Arica, all of Circulo Dardo, and Senda Acantilada; Eastview and District B are represented by Adena Lane, Chretien Court, Campana Villas; Westwood Night Out parties include Matinal Circle; Seven Oaks is well represented by a number of homes on Callado Road, Lomica, Pastoral and Calle Maria. Be sure to call the Neighborhood Watch office at 538-8148 to arrange to pick up InfoSheets, Beat the Quake brochures, safety tips and scam alerts to hand out at your Night Out parties. News from the Better Business Bureau: If you are receiving unwanted mail or telephone calls from companies, and you wish them to stop calling or mailing to you, there are a few organizations which may provide some relief. The Direct Marketing Association, P.O. Box 9014, Farmingdale NY 11735, offers two free services to consumers. Their "Mail Preference Service" deletes your name from mailing lists of certain direct mail marketing firms and some non-profit organizations. The Telephone Preference Service, P.O. Box 9008, Farmingdale NY 11735 deletes your name from some national telemarketing firms. When writing to the DMA be specific: you want your name removed from both commercial and city mailing lists. We have more information on other organizations that can help. Come to the Neighborhood Watch office at the library for copies. Call first 538-8148. Courtesy RB NEWSJournalAugust 2, 2001 |
