Special events coming soon to community
Thirteen volunteers will be honored by the Neighborhood Watch/ Emergency Preparedness Board of Advisors at the Annual Awards dinner party on February 8, including certificates from the RB Community Council and a permanent plaque at the library. Alethea Altenbern, Charles Arnold, Jim Diaz, Connie Gaasch, Paul Garfield, Charles Mathieu, J.B. Melton, Richard Mitchell, Ralph Stewart, John Strane, Frank Terschan, Lavonne Upton and Sue Wahl are the well-deserved recipients. On Wednesday, February 20, The Friends of the Library will host Marc Van Buskirk whose talk will be "Immortalize Your Life - a fun and simple way to write your auto-biography." This monthly Brown Bag affair will start at 12 noon in the Community Room at the Library. The next Friends book sale will be Friday, February 22 and Saturday February 23. There is free income tax assistance at RB Senior Services every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday starting February 2 through April 15. For hours and for more information call 487-2640. Congratulations go to Barbara Crouch for her recent RB Hall of Fame membership. A Continuing Education Center's five-day Study/Travel tour to San Francisco departs on February 21. This motorcoach tour stops at Santa Maria with lodging at the historic Santa Maria Inn; Santa Barbara, and finally Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco, Ghiradelli Square and Pier 39. A guided tour of Chinatown and the famous New Year Parade is also included- the year of the horse. For more information, prices and registration, contact Bee St. Clair at CEC at 487-0464. Put these early March dates on your calendar, too. By popular demand Saturday, March 2 at 9:30 a.m. in the Library's Community Room, Bob Rose and his sister, a local paramedic, will come back to RB to teach us all the many First Aid things we can do to help our family and friends. That's what First Aid means - what to do before you get to a doctor or paramedic. Bob is a Certified Red Cross instructor and will answer all your questions. Saturday, March 9 at 11:30 at a luncheon at Bernardo Heights Country Club, three new volunteers will be welcomed into the 2001 RB Hall of Fame: Barbara Crouch, Robert B. Smith and Vicki Touchstone. Also being honored are the new 2001 Youth Hall of Fame members: Scott Davies, Ashley Safronoff and Sonia Samagh. The public is invited.
