Coco’s Café and Bakery in Rancho Bernardo congratulates Dawn Burwell and Marika Murch and honors them with the Coco’s Award for August 2002. Each month Coco’s donates two free lunches each to two outstanding Neighborhood Watch and Emergency Preparedness volunteers. Thanks go to Coco’s for their generosity and their pride in RB’s hard working volunteers. Our own RB Historical Society will be on PACE TV, starring Joyce Gage and Cathy Sirpis, and interviewed by Esther Bloom. Be sure to watch it on one of the following channels. All programs will air at 5:30 p.m. Channel 19 (Time Warner) on Sunday, August 11; Channel 18 (Cox) on Tuesday, August 13; and Channel 23 (San Diego) on Friday, August 15. Buttons are now on sale to benefit the new Rancho Bernardo Dog Park. Land was purchased by the City (thanks to Brian Maienschein) for the SD Park and Rec Department to build a dog park adjacent and south of the Community Park’s playing fields. Brian promises this park will not just be a dog park, but a lovely designed park for dogs and humans. It will take time to accomplish this.Specially designed buttons can be purchased (by a donation) at all 4 Veterinarians’ offices, at Community Services and the Neighborhood Watch Office (2nd floor library). Please help the ‘Friends of the RB Dog Park" start a fund for this worthwhile cause. Wine and food lovers take note: San Diego County Vintners’ Association’s 6th Annual Winemakers Dinner will be held on Saturday, August 10th at 6:30 p.m. at the Bernardo Winery, 13330 Paseo Del Verano in Rancho Bernardo. Call for Information and reservations: 858-487-1866The San Diego county wineries present their best wines and match them with some of North County’s best food. Guest chefs include: Tom Dowling, Rancho Bernardo Inn; Riko Bartelome, Maderas Country Club Grill; Patricia McCormick, Café Merlot; and Jean Vanderville, La Casa del Zorro Resort. This event is unique in that chefs will be mixing with the guests throughout the evening. All the wineries will have their owners and winemakers serving and answering questions about their wines. The San Diego County Vintners’ Association has now grown to 10 wineries. It’s a triple A!! August Alaskan Adventure on the luxury ship Celebrity Infinity from August 23 to 29. You’ll be pampered onboard with award-winning cuisine, music, movies, Broadway style shows, and a casino. The exciting ports of call include Skagway, Juneau, Ketchikan and Vancouver. You’ll be thrilled at the incredible scenery of the Inland Passage and the Hubbard Glacier. The Joslyn Center travel group will be hosting this exciting day trip on Wednesday October 2. This 110-acre hilltop site in the Santa Monica mountains overlooking Los Angeles features a museum with seven pavilions, each one devoted to a particular period in the history of art. (858) 485-6933. Flo Logsdon reports some street numbers missing in Seven Oaks. In her travels and visits as a Block Captain, she has noticed a number of homes with NO STREET NUMBERS on their houses, curbs or post lamps. We agree with Flo that this can be very dangerous, since emergency vehicles will take longer to find you. Neighborhood Watch advises ALL RESIDENTS to make sure their street numbers are easily seen from the street. Block Captains – please patrol your neighborhoods and remind everyone to make sure their numbers are large enough (AND in a contrasting color.) RB Senior Services is presenting a seminar on "Consumer Fraud and How to Protect Yourself" on Monday, August 5 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 at their office. Speaking will be Deputy District Attorney Tricia Pummill and Investigative Specialist Eva Casey. Make reservations soon since seating is limited. 487-2640 As many of you know, Neighborhood Watch has been hosting Seminars for the past 6 years. Many well known speakers have been introduced to Rancho Bernardo residents: Police Chief Jerry Sanders, Fire Chief Robert Osby, Paul Pfingst, Casey Gwinn, Paul Greenwood, Red Cross instructor Bob Rose, and a great number of police experts, including SWAT, Drugs and Gangs, Air Support and many others.
