Gifts that are meaningful, needed
Several days ago, Rancho Bernardo Neighborhood Watch and Emergency Preparedness received a generous check. It was sent by a friend of Pat and Roger Wolfe to commemorate the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary. What a great idea, I thought. How many things do we really want or need after a certain age anyway? For my recent birthday, I received 4 reams of paper earmarked for Neighborhood Watch from Toni and Richard Van Overmeiren. They were aware that the SDPD was no longer supplying the Storefront and how badly NHW/EPP needed paper. If one is involved with a charity or has an interest in a particular project, what better gift than a donation to help the charity or project along? And it follows, as well, what a great memorial to a loved one, a friend, or pet. All sorts of ideas come to mind: a picnic table or bench for the new Dog Park, perhaps a tree or two with the recipient’s name on a plaque. The RB Community Foundation has a Pathway of Pride in Webb Park, each step honoring the donor or the donor’s choice of something or someone, organization or association. There is even a Homeowners Association, the Miradors in Oaks North, represented on a step. Each $1,000 donation there goes to the RBCF Endowment Fund; many local charities benefit from the interest from this Fund. The list is practically endless. You can donate money and/or needed items for birthdays, anniversaries, thank-yous, bar/bat mitzvahs, births, weddings, retirements, bon voyages and holidays. And it will all be greatly appreciated by the recipient and his pet charity. I would like to thank the following people for their paper donations: Tim Dodge, Jane Morgan, Ralph Parris, Bob Kelly, the Van Overmeirens, and Jane Radatz. Anyone else who would like to contribute to the "Paper Brigade?" Our display board in the library (2nd floor at the elevator) is ravenous for paper. Booklets, pamphlets, eNEWS, crime stats, scam and fraud materials and disaster preparedness articles all need paper to keep the residents of Rancho Bernardo safe and secure and apprised of the latest information. * * * * * LATEST NEWS FROM RSVP: Nametags with TEN stars were presented to Dan Conner and Hobart Steely.
