May dates to note….
Mark your calendars now for the Thursday, May 27 at 7 p.m. RB Community Council meeting when San Diego City Manager Lamont Ewell will be on hand at the Library, 2nd floor. This will be a great opportunity to meet and question the new Manager. All residents are welcome. 3rd Annual Walk in the Park at the Joslyn Center with host Larry Himmel will be held on Sunday, May 16. Registration at 7:30 a.m. Many added attractions this year. You don’t want to miss the fun! One- and three-mile walks, body massages and relaxation treatments, face painting, continental breakfast and refreshments, gift bag, door prizes, Stepping Out t-shirts. Healthy and fun! Rain or shine the event will be held. Registration forms are available at Joslyn or by calling 858-487-9324. President of the Public Relations Society of America, San Diego Chapter, Joice Truban Curry, is the guest speaker at the Press Club of Rancho Bernardo’s Friday, May 14 meeting held at the Remington Club II, 16916 Hierba Drive starting at 10:30 a.m. The meeting is open to the public with free parking in the Von’s Shopping Center. Jack Mitchell will be the speaker (and trumpet player) at the Friends of the RB Library's Wednesday, May 19 Brown Bag Program. His topic will be "Life at the End of a Horn." The program, open to the public, will begin at 12:15 p.m. in the library's second-floor Community Room. Coffee and cookies will be served and attendees may bring bag lunches if they wish. The Friends will also present a free chamber music concert that evening at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Room. Performing will be the popular Velvet Bones Trombone Quartet. For information about either of these events, call 858-592-0177. The following World Affairs Council’s Thursday morning meetings in May at 10 a.m. at Remington Phase II, 2nd floor meeting room. (Please do not park in Club’s parking spaces.);"May 13: Leonard Rapoport, Member: "Worldwide Food Issues;"May 20: Dan Conway, Member: "Business Risk Insurance for Third World Countries;" May 28: Ann Hoiberg, Guest: "Iraqi Women." The World Affairs monthly evening meeting will be on Tuesday, May 11 at the RB Swim & Tennis Club. The speaker on " INDIA: ITS STANDING IN THE WORLD" will be Dr. Dipak Gupta, Professor in the Department of Political Science at SDSU, and the Co-Director of the Institute for International Security and Conflict Resolution. Coffee at 7:00 p.m; program at 7.30. The RB Veterans Memorial Association invites all veterans and their families and guests to attend its annual Memorial Day ceremony at the lake in Webb Park, Avena Place off Bernardo Center Drive, Monday, May 31, 2004. The ceremony, to honor and remember our deceased veterans of all wars, will begin at 10:00 am. The featured speaker will be Brig. Gen. John M. Paxton, Jr., Commanding General, Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego. Following the ceremony guests are invited to a buffet luncheon on the patio of the newly opened Pearl Restaurant in Rancho Bernardo's Webb Park (formerly Anthony's).
