The Lions Club's history dates back to 1917 when the first club was established in Chicago to help the less fortunate in their community.  International status was achieved in 1920 when clubs in Canada, Mexico and China joined.  In 1925, Helen Keller challenged the Lions "to become the Knights of the Blind in the Crusade against Darkness."  Thus, their emphasis on helping the sight impaired.  Today the International Association of Lions Clubs is the world's largest volunteer service organization, with more than 1.3 million members worldwide in over 45,000 individual clubs in over 200 countries.

The Rancho Bernardo Lions Club is one of the largest in San Diego County with 66 members.  We serve our local community:  our main thrust is to help those who are sight impaired.  Our motto is: "WE SERVE"

Our funds are raised through our annual "White Cane" drive, fruitcake sales, holiday flower deliveries and flag sales.  Rancho Bernardo projects receive 100% of funds raised.

The Rancho Bernardo Lions Club meets from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays each month at the Stone Ridge County Club in Poway.  All guests welcome.  Contact Howard Ayers, Director of Membership at (858) 451-1359.
